"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn" - Benjamin Franklin
Teaching requires a type of passion and commitment that not only allows you to instill your knowledge upon others but to also learn yourself. I plan to learn as much from my future students as they learn from me. I plan to involve them in every step of the learning process. To me learning is more then just filling the students notebooks with facts and figures it is involving them completely and leaving them with a desire to return to class to know more. During my student teaching experience the students have challenged me to learn more, to experience a variety of learning abilities, and to even change my lesson in the middle of teaching to better suit the students needs.
My name is Andrew Dietz and I am a Secondary Social Studies teacher (7-12). I have recently graduated from Albright College with a B.A. in History and I am currently working enrolled in a 4+1 program which allows me to work on receiving my Master's degree in Education during the fifth year of college.
Education has always been of key importance to my life. My Grandfather (Pop Pop) was the one who originally inspired me to go into the field of history. He shared his stories from WWII and never stopped reading about history. We would go on long hikes when I was younger and he would share his knowledge with me not only about history but about nature as well. Ever since I was little I wanted to be a teacher but I was not sure of what subject until I saw the passion and emphasis my Grandfather placed on history. I hope to share that same passion and emphasis with my students in the future.
My teaching goals that I plan to strive for each and every day of my career
-To remember to always think: “What do I want my students to learn?” and “How will I know that they have learned it?"
-To differentiate my instruction so that all learners needs are met.
-To make my classroom student centered.
-To identify how learning history applies to the students in their everyday and future lives.
-To incorporate the use of technology into my classroom
This website is used for my eductional portfolio and for other projects I have completed or that I am currently working on both in and outside of school. A sample of the lessons I have created for my student teaching experience are located inside my portfolio. I have also had the opportunity to volunteer at a railroad museum and work in the archives at school, work can be seen for both on my portfolio page. Websites I have designed and maintained for various businesses can be seen on the websites page.
I hope you enjoy my website, also please feel free to use any lessons or information as long as you provided a link back to the website.
Thank you,
Andrew M. Dietz
